We want to help children acquire and become conversant with basic literacy and numeracy skills. Content is not considered as important as comprehending concepts. Childen are given the opportunity to work at their own pace while teachers pay attention to individual needs. We not only emphasise creative activities such as art, craft, drama and music, but also quiet time and resolving conflict through dialogue.

Stillness and the ability to listen and remain quiet are emphasised as much as open communication. We try to help the child act in an orderly manner that is sensitive to the needs of others without having to resort to authority or imposition of rules. It is important to us to strike a balance between acquisition of skills and alternative activities that help overall development of the child.

Inwoods Small School is a place where one can learn a way of living that is whole, sane, and intelligent. Consistent with the views of its founder, J. Krishnamurti, the school encourages the art of inquiry, self-understanding and relationship in a noncompetitive and holistic learning environment.

How do we want children to learn?

  • With joy and attention
  • Without fear
  • In close proximity to nature
